Hey truedog, its good to be back. No, the marshal isn't Rooster Cogburn. The book is called Oklahombres and the author is E.D. Nix. The title page says he is a former United States Marshal in Old Oklahoma Territory and the Cherokee Strip. I've only read the introduction so far, but I can see that he talks about the Daltons, the Doolins, people named Tulsa Jack and Cattle Annie. There are several Indian desperadoes here, too. People like Chief Bacon Rind and Cap Red Shirt. After things slow a little I plan to kick back and enjoy this book.
