Why are you paying for all of the ISP access with T-1 speed and so forth when you can get ISP access for free?

Re:doesn't mean that Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow, who is struggling with a mortgage can also afford internet access, such as AOL.

Joe blow can't afford a computer if he is struggling to make his mortgage payment. If this is who the free ISP is marketing towards then I am all for it. Joe blow will wait for his welfare check to arrive via his free ISP.

In the mean while, AOL will romp on down the road selling ads to businesses who are not targeting the ISP housing projects.

Believe it or not, you aren't the only one out there who can afford internet access. In fact, AOL has close to 20 million paying customers and adding thousands a day. Not to mention all the people paying for access thru other providers. Now, if you want to argue that people will choose free access, then that's a different argument. But, implying the average person can't afford it is irrelevant at best.

Dr. Bond:

It's good to see that you can afford so many internet connections.

If you believe free ISP's are the future, and AOL is going down the tube, why don't you put your money where your mouth is, and get your wife a free ISP, instead of AOL? Perhaps she likes her AOL, which a lot of us do, and "free" ISPs are not what we or she wants.

By the way, didn't you say a few posts back that you are long term bullish on AOL? Or do your long term opinions change by the hour?

Good luck if you are in a jam and short AOL!!!

Dr. DA.

DR. BOND

I am Joe Blow. Thanks for bringing to my notice the free ISPs and all those free PC giveaways. Did I say giveaways? Heck now, they still asked me that I should sign a contract and they were charging me for my signature saying that I had to come up with money first and wait for my check in the mail. Heck I am used to waiting for my check in the mail and I would love the experience once more, But heck why do you think I yearn for free ISP? You got it. I do not have money in the first place. Cannot even come up with the money up front for a free ISP. And you know what? even if could finnagle something and come up with the money for a free computer, you think I have any money to respond to their e-commerce ads etc.

But anyway, I am elated since the ISPs are targeting me and my business.
