Mark: If inflation 'suddenly' shows up ala the ppi, we will see 6.5 tomorrow. If, and this is less likely, but if we see a bad ppi followed by a bad cpi, you will not need to wait till the 24th -- we will see 7% next week. Under those circumstances we have a 'crash' scenario where the combination of foreign selling, collapsing multiples, domestic rotation (stocks to bonds) and margin calls -- not to mention ordinary people running for their lives -- with a downside of 30-50% on the high multiple stocks in a matter of hours, and 5-10% off the major market in days if not hours. It is worth being a little 'defensive' in posture -- although a little late to do it. I am more on the gold side because I hate being so exposed to a number I cannot predict -- much less two of them.
