Skip, How could $ill have stopped Redhat? It was a swarm of locusts. Even if he took a contract out on an individual [or, more legally managed to stop one] he couldn't have stopped Linux and Redhat developments.

That is part of it. The other appeal is open source. All can develope as the lastest release is published. No monkey biz as MSFT did IBM before Win 95 came out.
