Maurice, What you wrote makes perfect sense. In the long run the market eventually wins. However sometimes that takes too long for the guy who gets rubbed out, which in turn discourages others from competing. Netscape is a good example of that. They were too small to fight the free browser war with $ill. AOL got bribed into replacing Netscape with IE by positioning the AOL messenger on the operating sytem. Now that the story is out $bill is going to have a much tougher time.

What if Dell has been told by the consumer that they want OS brand X and that Dell feels there is enough demand to be forced to satisfy it? Gee, what a concept...CHOICE!!!!! MSFT discount their OS? Try free or orignal at $49.99 US in skrink wrap verus $300 original license. What do you think that will do to their earnings and to investor physcology? Hmmmm.... Vision: Po'Boy $ill Gates walking the waterfront downtown Seattle with a tin cup and pencils. OF course he'll sell you a defective one for $20 and you will come back for the new and improved version for $40!!!
