Gene, How profitable is Solaris for Sun - do you happen to have any numbers on that ? After all the alpha chip did claim to support NT/Ultrix AND VMS - it was supposed to be a truely open platform, except that DEC never could market anything properly....

That's because the crowd is right!
Linux is bad for NT.
People who already use Solaris are more likely to use Linux instead of NT.
Also, shops that might have considered NT may now get Linux (for free?)
Linux does not compete with Solaris because Linux runs mainly on Intel boxes.
