40 represents the % attributable to subs. I'm using the company's figure. They say 40% subs, 40% ads or related, 30% commerce and other including @Work?. Doesn't include Spice and that could get margins pumped! The computation is obviously pure nonsense. Besides, what does it mean? If we have structural inflation and PEs are averaging 10 instead of 50, things aren't so interesting. Can't you see it: Gephardt President, Rivlin Fed chair, Democrats controlling the House and Senate, trade barriers, fairness purges, increased taxes, unions everywhere. more military spending for various wars world wide, oil prices at $100/bbl. During the '70s these sorts of things were considered to be highly desirable. Consider how much Americans have benefited from inflating home prices. But it does mean PEs of 10.
