However the question is that downgrades happen after the close, and therefore the 1 rating becomes a 2 rating overnight. The next trade in the morning the stock goes down 20% and the question is does the drop get reflected on the long term performance of the 1 or the 2 rating. The end result is that a 1 rating overestimates the performance whereas the 2 rating could get balanced out to some degree by overnight upgrades on better earnings.

That is if this is how it works, which is the question.
