That's my sentiments entirely... This guy is a flocking idiot! BTW here is a response to our negative propaganda expert who calls himself "iomeganut" over on TMF. Reposted from TMF: Subject: Re: These comments more frequent Date: 8/13/99 1:14 AM Author: Twylwyf Number: of 24319 Well, Nut (notice the capital "N", a sign of respect), now that you have posted a realistic scenario, based on your experience, you are due a respectfull answer. 1) software distribution 2) file sharing 3) backup 1) Software distribution was never the domain of Zip or Jaz. They never even pretended so. You loose this round because you set up a straw man just to knock him down. 2) File sharing is the emminent domain of Zip and your words to the contrary do not change this. File sharing is, I think, the most reasonable use of Zip. You loose this one just on basic logic. 3) Backup does not exist. Actually, let me rephrase that. Backup kind of exists but restore is a joke, and without restore backup is irrelevant. Here is an exercise for the expert: Back up a hard drive, then shoot that hard drive with a large calibre pistol and then try to restore that old hard drive. You haven't lived until you try to do a restore of Win9X or WinNT. You see, you need to load windows before you can restore and by then your registry is pre-determined. Just try to install modern software without using the original setup programs! Try it! The smelly dark, dank little joke in the OS world is that back-up is easy and restore is next to impossible. Where do the registry entries go? Where does Win.ini get it's info? What happens to all the installation entries? Computers are fundamentally flawed - they rely on us humans. This is a serious deficiency. So, Nut, your scenario of a back-up solution is just about impossible under even the best of conditions. That's 3 out of 3. Too bad. Now, to back up data, Zip or Jaz are doing just fine. But, back up a complete HD to CD-R is pretty much rediculous. I can not even imagine the level of patience it would take to back up a modern HD onto CD-R at the very SLOOOOOWWW rate of that device. No reasonable human with a life at all would want to sit there feeding discs at a rate of one each hour for 10 hours to back up a 6GB drive. Even the Nut would get weary. Nut, are you that patient? I know I'm not. So, Nut, you make some good points but you seem to be making a good case for the existence for Zip and Jaz. I'm sure this is not intentional but then sometimes logic leads us into uncharted territory. I have postulated before: floppy will not be killed by Zip. It will just die on the vine. It's too cheap for anything to challenge it. Twylwyf Waff, not a layman, full of information and never in a condition of self-doubt. NovW, take note. Please.
