It apppears that Softbank is lining up a nice executive staff for many of their ventures. People are the key to success in the Internet Arena (or anywhere else for that matter). One of the most impressive things about Softbank is how they seem to be able to move quickly past the regulatory roadblocks that usually delay such ventures as the Wireless Internet and the creation of Nasdaq Japan. This implies strong behind the scenes political clout.

When I talked to Schwab this morning they quoted a $252Bid and a $257 Asked which is only a $5 spread versus the usual $10 spread. The broker agreed that it seemed unusual to only have the $5 spread. Of course, an exchange listing will reduce even the $5 spread as well as open up the possibility of options.

The though is lurking in the back of my mind that Microsoft is a $500 Billion Company and Softbank is a $20 Billion Company. Would it be possible for Gates to leverage Microsoft into the middle of the Internet by simply buying Softbank? Perhaps He could keep Softbank as a tracking stock and fold in Microsoft's other Internet elements...No rumors, just wild speculation <G>.
