i received the following info by e-mail last night. this person was at siggraph all day yesterday.

siggraph 99

Interesting day. Some disappointments and some surprises. Boxx and Texas Memory
are not using Rambus at this time.

Talked to deleted from Boxx who said they were getting all the performance they needed
for their Fusionbox. The next statement he made was that they would be using Rambus in
their workstations.

Did not get a card from the Texas memory person but I had to talk to 3 different people.
They are not using Rambus now but will use it in the future when prices come down.

Comment from IBM was that they are slowly getting ready.

Sun Micro was the coldest. The person I talked to gave me a definite no to Rambus.

Hewlett Packard: Talked to deleted about Rambus and their Testing Equipment.
I asked him how many chips the Test Equipment could test at one time. He didnt know.
Then asked him when Rambus direct rdram would be used by HWP. He asked me for my
companys card which is non existant. Then told me that any information regarding
Rambus was propriatory and couldnt be discussed.

Kingston: Talked to deleted about Rambus production. He could only tell me that 600
and 800 modules had been built.

after receiving the above by e-mail, i spoke with the sender for about 1 1/2 hours. he told
me he is certain that dell is next month and compaq plans rambus by feb 1 next year.

My take is that AMD know Intel are going to come out with RMBS support and sell it as a competitive advantage.

AMD are making a pre-emptive strike against that potential advantage.
As for Intel - the only reason Intel wouldn't offer 133 SDRAM would be if they knew RDRAM prices were going to come down very quickly so as not to be a problem. They would be dumb to give it to AMD on a plate by letting them keep their performance advantage on all but the most expensive of systems.

Whatever Intel are doing, the stock looks pretty sick to me. I am waiting to go long RMBS but not yet. Rather miss the boat and catch another one than jump on a sinking ship.
