FWIW, stock price still a mystery to me..closed out option position with stock at 77 few days ago (pure luck, no skill!)..in my experience, seemingly unexplained drops in stock price near earnings release are ALWAYS due to downside earnings surprise..but that's hard to believe, given all the positive press we have had on earnings so recently...and the recent drop was clearly tied to Needham downgrade...we'll see. Would like to get back in around strike of 70 for sept or oct. if price is right

<<Orders, and the early AMAT run up of the stock appear to be on track but currently the Price is not keeping up as in the past.

I do not know why the uncertainity now?>>

On this date in 1997, the P/E ratio was about 41, and now it is about 96. That might have something to do with it.

On the other hand, if you take the earnings from the May quarter and annualize it, you get a P/E of 46 on 8/13/97, and about 47 today. So everything depends on expectations going forward.
