Cable modem maker Century Electronics files IPO

WASHINGTON, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Century Electronics
Manufacturing Inc., which makes cable modems, wireless phones
and other electronics, said Friday it planned to offer 4
million common shares in an initial public offering.
The shares may be priced in the $8-10 per share range and
trade on Nasdaq under the symbol <CEMI.O>, the Marlborough,
Mass.-based company said in a filing with the Securities and
Exchange Commission.
If there is heavy demand for the 4 million shares, then the
underwriters, Advest, J.C. Bradford and Needham & Co., have an
option to buy 600,000 more shares, said Century, which also
makes telecom and networking switching equipment, two-way radio
equipment and digital imaging products.
Century, whose customers include Motorola Inc. <MOT.N>,
Lucent Technologies Inc. <LU.N> and 3Com Corp. <COMS.O>, said
it will use the net proceeds from the IPO to pay down existing
debt and for working capital and general corporate purposes,
including possible acquisitions.
