RE: >>MOT countersues Q.<<

As soon as I read this I thought "it's deja vu all over again" with ERICY and Q. Your points about MOT's mistakes are right on, and just like ERICY did, they are attempting to cover them over by suing the "winner."

Here's is my opinion (FWIW). They did this to cover themselves for when they go to negotiate a settlement (do I hear the word capitulation) with Q just like ERICY did. And I further predict they won't wait (they can't afford to wait) as long as ERICY did to come to their senses.

By the way, notice how frightened the market was by this news. Q close up 9 at its high for the day.

Very interesting analysis about MOT and the Q. It can be added that Iridium's inevitable bankruptcy was also announced on Friday the 13th. Much of MOT's troubles in this decade, IMO, can be traced to nepotism and hubris. The founder's grandson found himself with too much real and imagined power.

Tangentially very important to the Q is CMGI's decision this week to become the first major in the U.S. to offer free on-line access, via AltaVista.com, beating the rumored MSFT move to the punch. This amounts to a major cost reduction for PC, lap top and mobile users. AOL has had to follow Dixon's lead in U.K., and I don't see how they can avoid a similar fate in the States as advertisers go with the flow.

Which provider will become the first to complete the package by offering free phones? Or will it be an ECN?

Hmmmmm. If Motorola bungled its whole strategy for CDMA (because management was so enthralled with its analog cellular and paging business), maybe the stock is vulnerable. What if we had a correction in the whole market, and Motorola, because of its own mistakes, was at the forefront of the drop? Perhaps the purchase of a few MOT put options would be good insurance for portfolios that are heavy on QCOM.
