"Last March, Cringely was positing that AT&T should pick up NOVL to get at the 80 million seats. (Go to last
paragraph for the essence).

Now, AOL has done an end-run to gets its messaging hooks into those seats first. Hoohah."

Loring,

I think you got this wrong. Cringely has something there. With its alliance with NOVL, AOL is in fact also positioning itself to get broad band access. This is where the next major war is going to explode- it is in fact exploding already-.

Cringely also wrote about instant messaging a few weeks ago (it seems like ages ago at the speed things move on the internet). Pay attention to his idea about universal mail and think about Digitalme.

NOVL has both the key technologies and the eye balls..yada yada.. This has been discussed extensively in this thread. It is only now that we start to finally see Schmidt's strategy to exploit NOVLs enviable position.

Fasten your seat belts..
