New York, Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Uniprime Capital Acceptance Inc. and an executive were charged with defrauding investors by falsely claiming that a subsidiary of the auto dealer had discovered a treatment for AIDS, authorities said. Uniprime and the president of a subsidiary, Alfred Flores, were sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in a New York federal court. Flores was arrested yesterday on related criminal charges that he issued false press releases in which he claimed to have found an AIDS treatment, officials said. The AIDS- related announcement boosted Uniprime's stock. Flores, a resident of Las Vegas, has a criminal record, including a 1984 conviction for conspiracy to commit a financially motivated murder, the SEC's suit said. During the time Flores claimed he was doing medical research in Europe, Flores was instead in a Colorado prison for the murder conviction, federal prosecutors in New York said. Las Vegas-based Uniprime claimed, falsely, that Flores's subsidiary, New Technologies & Concepts Inc., had developed an intravenous treatment, called Plasma Plus, that reversed infections from the HIV virus in five patients treated in Madrid, the charges said. Uniprime shares fell 3/8 to 3/4 in recent trading. Aug/13/1999 15:34 For more stories from Bloomberg News, click here. (C) Copyright 1999 Bloomberg L.P.
