Brander,

I don't know if you would call them "paid bashers" or simply professional shorts but they do exist. I actually became very friendly with one of them. It would be interesting to know where these guys go to school because they are very good at disrupting threads and are full aware of the fact that disrupting a thread on a small stock will have an effect on new investment money coming into the stock.

Do they need to register with the SEC? In a manner of speaking they do. They register their short position with the SEC however, there is a loop hole around that. Shares sold short by through foreign accounts do not have to be registered. The bottom line IMO is that they believe that a stock is over priced and are paid by their shorting of the stock. Does that make them a paid basher? Anyway that was my experience with them.
