I'm thinking back now, I think Greenspan wrote that later than 64. 66 or 67 maybe?

Not that I read it then, but about 4-5 years ago I briefly had in my possession two complete years of The Objectivist newsletter. I wish I had kept them.

"The Collective" was an "in" joke. It was supposed to be ironic.

Friedman's ideas are, overall, very thought-provoking. If you have never read one of his better books, Free to Choose, I would highly recommend you pick up a copy. As for his being on the WWII withholding panel, I am not aware of it. Of course, the withholding was supposed to be a short-term emergency measure which was to expire after WWII. But then, when has anything been short-term in Washington? (Except, perhaps, for Treasury Bills and Notes.)
