Sounds like CSCO proved to provide superior service by helping to restore a network crash even through their equipment was not responsible. That can be invaluable.

I know of no detailed explanation yet as to what is causing the MCI debacle, but LU technology failures have been blamed. I believe last year CSCO had failures with the ATT network but it appears the resolution was not as drawn out. I believe the final resolution of this problem will be important for WCOM investors as well as networkers like LU, CSCO, NN, NT etc. Is there an alternative that would have prevented this from happening? Is the NYSE next? NASDAQ? Could you imagine if it lasted 8 days?

Looks like ATT is replacing some of their 3COM equipment with CSCO in their network due to 3COM having network incompatibilites:

Was the LU equipment incompatible with other equipment in the WCOM network?

PMSW,

The CISCO people quickly determined that CISCO equipment was working
properly, but STAYED TO HELP THE CUSTOMER SOLVE THE PROBLEM, even though it was the fault of some
other company's equipment.

"A customer problem is our problem." That motto will get you everywhere.

Eight days, even if the outage is "partial" is incredibly long, in my experience. Maybe there are so many equipment suppliers involved that it has come down to finger pointing, 'ain't my problem' type thing. Maybe the network equipment companies should hire some top notch diagnostics engineers from the computer industry (or are they as much up to speed in diagnostics development as the computer folks?).

Tony

Thanks for the memory, PMSW. ;o))))

I am relatively new to CSCO and pleased to find they are THAT good.
Now I know why all those articles keep saying "engineers report it is nearly impossible to break CSCO's hold on a customer".

best regards

PMSW or someone-- is it true that CSCO has the Network Flight Record NFR security product?

I hate a note to that effect, need to confirm. Any other information about CSCO security products would be very welcome as well.
