A good snap shot of third world writing in the English Language....

an excerpt....
The mastery of cricket by Indian or Caribbean peoples may be likened to what is now achieved in literature by writers such as Salman Rushdie, Amit Chaudhuri or V.S. Naipaul. A persistent theme of these authors is that of an affluent, charismatic person who comes from India or Jamaica to an England which looks increasingly like a Third World country and which frustrates all his or her high expectations of it. "For a man like Saladin Chamcha," writes Rushdie of the protagonist of The Satanic Verses, "the debasing of Englishness by the English was a thing too terrible to contemplate."

Mohan:
Thanks for the link:
Sonia is getting a lot of heat from the press on Jayalalitha, Claim of support from 272 MPs to form Govt and her foreign origin. I am not concerned about her foreign origin. Where is the beef - experience in Governance? Her husband, an airline pilot, came into political being and prime Ministership out of political nowhere and gave us nothing. The negatives surpassed any perceived positives. Is there something wrong with the Congress? Why depend on non-performing Nehru-Gandhi dynasty? The Congress is not able to shift focus from freedom movement to good governance. The Congress has shifted focus from freedom movement to bowel movement. Can't the Congress find an experienced politician to run the office of the Prime Minister in a nation of almost a BILLION people? Can a surgeon's spouse with no surgical training operate on a patient because of his/her proximity to the surgeon?
