But your argument causes a rush to the bottom. Can't you agree that sometimes if the media takes a certain approach we can just say it's wrong and we aren't going to apply it to other people? Otherwise, all journalism becomes Larry Flynt journalism, which IMO would be a serious blow to a functioning democracy.

(And anyhow, there is a difference. Bush has not told stupid lies about his youth such as "I didn't inhale" or "I didn't break the laws of (I forget his exact wording) or lying about his draft situation. When a candidate for president lies, I think it's fair game. Bush has said that there were some youthful indescretions and he's not going to talk about them. No lies. No trying to equivocate or dodge or such. To me, I didn't care if Clinton smoked some grass as a student. I DID care if he lied about it. The first is irrelevant to the performance in the Presidency. The second is NOT.
