Dan,

<Everything shows up first in Akihabara. Remember this link:
theregister.co.uk
from your fan Mike at the Register that showed pictures of the Pentium 600 for sale in Akihabara when there had never been a mention of one from Intel?>

Akihabara is seen to be believed. I was sceptical about the press reports and what my Japanese friends until I saw it for myself.

In any case, note the PIII price curves in the register article and compare it with PIII pricing right now - this is *before* the rumored price cut that is expected to happen in a couple of weeks.

Given where the ASPs are today it is unlikely that Intel is going to make this quarter unless they stuff the channel and/or steal some business from Q4. Looks like Dan Niles may be on the mark - again.

Chuck

You raise an interesting point - Intel devices FOR SALE - well before they are officially launched - and AMD devices - still NOT FOR SALE - 2 months after they were officially launched !
