Rick: "MCI/WCOM uninformed about severity of problem".
This has come through loud and clear in the last 8 days: WCOM ( and by extension, LU ) have no clue of what is the problem,& how it should have been fixed: rapidly with minimum discomfort to WCOM customers. This was a major PR debacle that will linger long in memory. The management team obviously was more interested in rapid expansion of WCOM rather than in making sure that that expansion was well grounded in sound systems. This shows over and over as WCOM tries to cover up their mistakes by telling customers not to worry, oblivious to the customers needs ( CBOT ) who could have put a back up system in place if WCOM had told them so.
WCOM blames LU ( I am not sure as yet if this was LU's fault ). Either way LU is not going to be happy for being blamed or of actually being responsible.
The fall out of this will be seen in the next few weeks.

Ian if your assumption is correct would it not also be correct to say that many other companies (and investors)
now have a better understanding of what Newbridge's true value is at this point in time.

I wouldn't be too sure. I read through the WCOM thread on SI this morning and those folks seem surprisingly
uninformed as to the nature/magnitude of the failure.

Another case of the "Emperor's New Clothes."
