PixelFusion chip used in 3-D accelerator

Aug. 13, 1999 (Electronic Engineering Times - CMP via COMTEX) -- LOS
ANGELES - Number Nine Visual Technology Corp., a PC graphics and visual
technology company, will use PixelFusion Ltd.'s massively parallel
Fuzion 150 chip in a high-end 3-D graphics accelerator card intended to
let PCs take full advantage of AGP Pro graphics interfaces.

The 3-D feature set and performance capabilities of the proposed
solution will allow PC vendors to deliver a true Windows NT-based 3-D
workstation that rivals most Unix or proprietary 3-D workstations, yet
at a fraction of the price, Number Nine said at Siggraph 99, the
industry's premiere computer graphics conference.

The new 3-D accelerator will be one of the first graphics add-in
cards to incorporate Rambus memory. According to PixelFusion Ltd.
(Bristol, England), current simulation tests show that this
architecture will more than double today's benchmark scores for the
most advanced high-end, proprietary 3-D workstations.

dan,
one of our shared concerns is how fast rambus makes it into the consumer affordable pc market.
are you aware of acer's plans in this regard?
i doubt that they are alone here.

Acer Will Support Rambus For Consumer PCs
TechWeb - Acer Laboratories, in Taipei, Taiwan, announced Tuesday that it has licensed 800-MHz memory-interface technology from Rambus. The company said this will make the higher speeds of Rambus -- 1.6 gigabytes per second of peak bandwidth from a single device -- available to more-affordable PCs.

"With Rambus memory support, the consumer PC owner will enjoy ample performance for CPU-intensive, video, and 3-D graphics programs and games," said Chin Wu, president of Acer Laboratories. "Rambus technology is a key element in our new products and will be a primary interface to DRAM for PC main-memory controllers for 1999 and beyond."

Acer Laboratories plans to introduce a new generation of PC chip sets with Rambus memory support this year. "ALI's record of being able to quickly ramp leading-edge PC chip sets in high volume will help accelerate the proliferation of the Rambus memory throughout the entire PC market," said Dave Mooring, vice president and general manager of the PC Product Division of Rambus, in Mountain View, Calif.
