Cheeky, if the improvement has forced the workers to work their butts off and get pink slips, then it's not improvement.

What I believe you are searching for is the term "value added improvement or change". And one of the reasons I have been somewhat critical of the beta site from the beginning. Instead of focusing on bringing more value to the customers of SI, it looked as if Go2net was more concerned with "change for change sake", possibly to cultivate a new image online. Management probably felt (until the complaints started) that it would be a relatively easy undertaking to change the site. After all Cnet, MSN and nearly every other site has dramatically changed its look and feel in the last couple of years.

What I believe they missed was the deeply felt interactive nature of SI. And that changing the site was going to take some serious dialogue so that we all became "enrolled" in the process rather than "compliant". The customers have always had a unique relationship with SI. Go2net is probably starting to understand this at a far deeper level than before.

At least I hope they are.
