LostHillsGuy, I'm sorry to step on your toes here, but I did actually ask that question when I was there.

I was told that they are working 12 hour rotations, because they didn't want to search for enough local people that they felt were qualified for the deep stuff, to fill 4 shifts (one shift is always on "days off").
Apparently it is a Nabors policy to try and employ as many locals as possible. At least, that is how it was put to me.

It doesn't really matter what the shift lengths are, because regardless, the rig is going 24 hours a day, every day.
I believe that many service rigs only work daylight hours, in both Canada and the US, but their roles are quite different from drilling rigs.
