Security Dynamics Announces its Largest Deal to Date Outside U.S.

Polaris Securities, Taiwan's Largest Brokerage House, to Protect Online Financial Applications With SecurID Solutions

August 26, 1999 07:30 AM Eastern Time
BEDFORD, Mass., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. SDTI today announced that Polaris Securities, Taiwan's leading securities firm, has selected Security Dynamics' SecurID(R) authentication solution to provide its customers with secure access to financial information in nearly every major city throughout Taiwan. This is the first widespread implementation of a data security solution for a securities firm in Taiwan, and this $3.5 million, multi-year agreement represents the largest sale to date of Security Dynamics' industry-leading authentication solutions outside of the United States.
Phased over the next three years, Polaris will rely on Security Dynamics Technologies (Hong Kong) Ltd. to help deploy its 50,000 SecurID key fobs and ACE/Server(R) authentication management software. Customized with the Polaris Securities logo and tagline, the first 10,000 SecurID keyfobs will be made available to Polaris' customers over the next couple of months.

"Our customers' security is Polaris' main concern, and token-based access is the strongest level of user authentication available," said Wayne Pai, president of Polaris Securities Group. "Through the Web site our customers can operate online stock transaction accounts, download information on individual stocks, industrial sectors and general information on stock markets at home and abroad, so it is critical that we ensure the safety and accuracy of each transaction."

"The number of online brokerage services is continuing to grow in Taiwan, but very few can guarantee the level of security that we are now able to provide. In our experience, only SecurID provides the maximum security possible to run a safe online brokerage. This clearly puts Polaris in a very strong competitive position," added Pai.

"We are delighted that the Polaris Group has chosen the SecurID system as their security device," said Simon Naylor, vice president of Security Dynamics' Asia Pacific operations. "This business opportunity is an important step for us in building a significant presence in the Republic of China. With the significant rise in hacking incidents and the growing use of remote computer access devices, companies and organizations throughout Asia will need to consider more secure options for their e-commerce systems."
