Paul,

Re. Alger Funds

Up until 2 years ago, I owned all four Alger funds. Generally speaking they performed better in up markets than in down, but my personally managed portfolio outperformed all of them in 1996 and 1997 - that's why (and when) I liquidated all my mutuals and started doing it all by myself.

This week's Barron's lists Fido's performance scores (YTD gains, etc). Not terribly impressive, I would say. Bob Stansky reportedly exited (or trimmed severely) his INTC position some months ago - a grave mistake, IMO - and this could be attributable to Magellan's mediocre performance this year (less than 7% YTD).

Cheers,
Ibexx

Paul, I agree. He didn't say much specifically, and he seemed to take all the ones for which I had created "Views" tables :-). He did seem fairly confident that Techs and Internets would bounce back.
