Re: Rentable software

There are a lot of hurdles to clear before this particular dream can become reality. The first, and most important hurdle, is does anybody really want it? Outside of large corporations (who will distribute software locally from their own servers on individually negotiated licensing terms) I see little evidence of consumer demand for this particular vision of the future.

Far more likely is the growth in web-based applications along the lines of Hotmail, PlanetAll, etc., as well as "web desktops" ala SUNW's iPlanet initiative. But while these will open new markets I doubt if they will obsolete the current PC software model.

The larger question as it relates to WAVX is will customers be excited about the prospect of attaching a usage-meter to their PCs as they surf the net?
