I'm actually tempted to write calls on WCOM.

That could be a rather dangerous strategy with unlimited risk. especially if they do get hit and somebody like T decides to take them out.

If you really want to place a leveraged bet on them going down, perhaps it would be better to buy Puts. The worst case scenario is that you lose every last $ of premium paid.

CLINTON, Miss. -- MCI WorldCom Inc. planned to take a domestic frame relay network platform out of service for an "approximately 24-hour period" beginning at noon EDT on Saturday.

In a press release late Friday, the telecommunications concern said it's taking the network down "to restore stability" to the network platform.

Frame relay service on the network won't be available during the repair period. Some customers of some Internet service providers won't be able to connect to their service through their regular local access numbers as a result of the work.

MCI has been plagued by trouble with the frame-relay network for more than a week. Problems with the system are still affecting high-speed transmissions among some business computers.

On Friday, the Chicago Board of Trade, whose electronic-trading system first failed last Thursday, said it will be out of commission until Sunday evening because of problems with MCI WorldCom's frame-relay system.

MCI WorldCom said it believes its repair plans are the "prudent solution" and said it's working around the clock to restore service.

Frame relay is a data-transmission technology that handles business functions including many airline reservations, cash-machine transactions, electronic trading and Internet transmissions.
