The Gold market has regained its footing as the proposal for IMF gold sales appears to be headed for defeat. South African mine workers
have stated explicitly that if a wage agreement was not reached by
Tuesday, 08/17/99, they would walk off their jobs. This news could put further pressure on the shorts to cover.
The sale price from Julys BOE auction: $261.20. My feeling is that if
gold can establish support above that level, it would
provide a psychological boost to the market and inspire strong bids at the next auction in September, if there is another auction in September.
