Well, I have personally seen friends who got into government jobs and schools via the quota system. It did hurt when it happened, cos I didn't even stand a chance and they (who got about the same marks as I did) got into the schools of their choice. One even was a devout Christian, who kept putting off his baptism cos then he'd lose his "perks". I do understand the need to alleviate these people, but trying to right a wrong with another is in my opinion not the right way. About these 20-percenters never making it, I don't know. I have personally seen people finish their engineering and dental degrees (the two schools I had exposure to) after 8 or 10 years.. partly cos the professors/college had had enough of them, and also because doing it 2 subjects at a time is possible. And hey, these guys don't need to write right.. they are doctors in India. About the idiots that come up with these laws, we have plenty of them in India.. and plenty that re-elect them time and again.

It's all just frustrating.
