Snasraway: Your point on difficulty of getting your hands around JDSU as a company that is several steps removed from our lives directly is a very perceptive one re investment in potential gorillas or kings IMO. Since I just posted on SI posting, I have noticed a correlation on SI between companies that are "household names" and frequent and higher quality posting. Even folks as sophisticated as SI posters do seem to find it easier to comment (and probably invest) in companies whose products are more familiar to them. What to do? Few of us can or will undertake the depth of research that Mike Buckley does. But luckily for us, Mike is kind enough to share his research, information derived from it, analysis and thoughts here and elsewhere on SI. This is one source that is of great value IMO. (Note that is why I keep trying to get him to check out JDSU :-) ) While it is much more difficult to learn about what a company like JDSU actually does, it is possible given time and persistence. SI itself is the best source in my experience. Where there is limited thread discussion of substance in depth, such as the SI Texas Instruments thread, this is more difficult. Yet TI is a leader in DSP (in itself a little hard to grasp at first) and IMO a King in that area or at a minimum a Prince with attitude. Note: Mike Buckley also pointed out in his post to me on the sister thread, which Uncle Frank helpfully posted a link to here yesterday, that there are probably gorillas in areas which are niches and known well only to those who work in their industry or area, yet while less glamorous or well known than the likes of Microsoft, may well be full gorillas in every sense of the GG rubric. How to find them? Guess we are dependent on nominations from the floor so to speak. Chaz
