dan,
i recollect that worldwide game sales for 1999 are
36 million. 50% of them have 4mb of rdram. i do not have a link handy.

projected worldwide sales for next year is 43 million. 100% of them will have 32mb of rdram.

that will be the equivalent of 20 million low end pc's.

we should deduct sega from those totals. i believe they have about 5% of the market.

i know! just another drop in the bucket.

sony is a pretty conservative company with a huge reputation for quality. did you know sony projects game station sales of over 50 million units in 2003. all of course with rdram inside. i wonder what other sony products will use rdram...hdtv, hd dvd, cameras, laptops, desktop pc's, etc.

dan,
why do you give more credence to garber's comments than you do to these comments by steve cullen, published after garber's report?

Cahners In-Stat Group Predicts Rambus DRAM to be Firmly Established in the PC Market by 2002

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jul 28, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE via COMTEX) --
Intel'sdecision to base its technology roadmap on Rambus DRAM (RDRAM)
has sparked unprecedented controversy among PC OEMs, their
semiconductor supply base and related industries. Cahners In-Stat
Group, a high-tech market research firm, has completed an extensive
report on the future of RDRAM and believes that the technology will
capture the leading market share over the next several years.

Steve Cullen, principal analyst for Cahners In-Stat Group's DRAM
service explains, "Contrary to what other firms are saying, we believe
it is not a question of whether Rambus will be successful, but rather
when. RDRAM has a significant advantage in bandwidth per pin that helps
to satisfy processors' insatiable appetite for data. Rambus will be a
major factor in differentiating first-tier DRAM suppliers from the rest
of the pack. DRAM suppliers that do not adopt Rambus will see shrinking
market share for PC DRAM and suffer overall dropping unit volumes."

Cahners In-Stat Group believes RDRAM will capture 60 percent of the PC
market due to Intel's marketing and distribution muscle, as well as the
technical merits of the solution. However, as detailed in the report,
Cahners In-Stat Group considered other scenarios and found RDRAM's PC
market share could fluctuate as much as 33 to 73 percent.

Rambus DRAM in Personal Computers is written by Steve Cullen, principal
analyst with Cahners In-Stat Group's DRAM service, and Scott Hudson,
senior analyst with the firm's PC Technology service. The report
examines RDRAM and the requirements of the personal computer market. It
provides a historical perspective of previous DRAM technologies and
offers a current assessment of alternative memory architectures before
considering different scenarios under which competing architectures
could capture sockets currently forecasted for RDRAM.

Cahners In-Stat Group is a high-technology market research firm
covering the consumer and convergence, networking, wireless,
telecommunications, Internet and semiconductor markets. Headquartered
in Newton, Mass., offices are also located in Scottsdale, Ariz. and San
Jose, Calif. Cahners In-Stat Group is part of Cahners Business
