Jack, I went with a competitive access carrier's phone service about six years ago, and it was real rocky until they stabilized just before they were acquired by WCOM. I then revisited that same old rocky road, all over again, in spades.

I commented at the time that Bernie was gobbling up too many different exotic dishes during one sit-down, and I was rebutted vehemently by some loyalists stating that he knew what he was doing and I didn't.

From a stock price perspective, I suppose that they were right. But from a network architecture perspective, it was nothing but hell for those who had to make it work... or, for those who tried.

I strongly suspect that their buying binges were curtailed for a spell due to these kinds of realizations.
