"Most people on the Titanic were doomed because she carried lifeboats for less than half those aboard due to cost-cutting by White Star and out-dated safety regulations. Most passengers on First Class survived. In Third Class, however, many found themselves barred from the boat deck and left to fend for themselves.

Alma Paisson was travelling with her four children to join her husband in the United States. All perished. The fate of Alma Paisson and her children was not unusual. Despite the myth of "women and children first," the survival rate for First Class men was higher than for Third Class children."

Curator's notes, Halifax Maritime Museum. Halifax was the nearest port to the Titanic, and the survivors, and the dead, were brought back there. There was one deck chair which may have actually been on the Titanic ~ it was given to the minister who buried all the dead, and passed down, and finally given to the museum. I bought myself an artist's interpretation. Ironic, reading that there were not enough lifeboats because of cost-cutting, looking at photos of the splendor of the vessel's fittings. John Jacob Astor's body had thousands in his pockets when it was found ~ he, at least, did not get into a lifeboat. I am sure that he would have traded every luxurious fitting in the vessel for one stinking lifeboat. It really makes one think clearly about priorities.

<<Kammer started hitting Ben in the restaurant and my father just ignored it. >>

That lad is going to be in for a big surprise when he goes to school and hits the wrong kid. I'll bet he will also try to make it a federal case when the blood is dripping out of his nose.

I doubt you had much of a possibility of a hit man being sent but seeing how tense the situation was, getting your dad and Kammer out of Dodge for a time was a good idea. I can see a plot for an Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Hour in this.

<<Fortunately for me, my mother came by and cleaned the place yesterday, she says it took 7 1/2 hours. She says she did it for the kids, but I feel like I owe her, as it was a generous and kind thing to do.>>

Was this the same mother who you evicted and had her car towed? I bet she wants something.
