sort of - I have used nets to determine if there was a correlation between the number and type of inputs and success rate.

Yes, a high correlation is self reinforcing of the input weight, which is why I caution others about using too many inputs that aren't substantially or criterially different from others.

No, although I may not be interpreting the question right. My TA background and experience dictated which inputs I wanted to explore and refine.
