How long will you be in Bhutan? I saw some photos brought back by a group that did some exploratory white water paddling trips there, and it looked absolutely magnificent.

G'day Michael & all - Michael, a bon voyage in advance. It sounds like an interesting trip. Hope it is for pleasure.

October is indeed a pivotal month. While PRC celebrates on Oct 1, Taiwan does hers on Oct 10. Methink <G> you are in safe passage if you are in Bhutan by then [some people call it the land of the Thunderbolt, the last of buddhist countries!]

Of course, October is likely to be pretty black here in the States, do you think the PRC really wants to rattle the saber when there is a strong possibility of a serious markdown in equities, globally?

Btw, um, the Beijing leadership is closet buddhist? It is entirely possible! U'know the common psychology how the rabid reactionaries secretly belong to sub/counterculture groups etc. is such a truism. Of course, the only problem is that that doesn't absolve their treatment to the tibetans. But that is another topic for some other time.

best, Bosco
