>>Seldane is an excellent example of what I'm trying to get across. There are literally hundreds of decongestents on the market, and many are OTC.<<

Seldane is not a decongestant and it is not on the market.

>>Most people are not overly troubled by the sedative effect of antihistamines so will opt for lower price.<<

Maybe you can explain why Claritin is by far the largest and fastest growing drug in this category, then?

>>So I wouldn't bet the farm on a new decongestent.<<

As John Metcalf pointed out, Allegra has sales of $500 million, which seems like a pretty good bet to make.

>>OK, if it's successful, than SEPR may be worth twice Merck.<<

Nobody ever made this claim.

Most people are not overly troubled by the sedative effect of antihistamines so will opt for lower price.

Obviously, the huge sales of non-sedative antihistamines conflict with your assertion.

From your post, I gather you are not aware that a decongestant and an antihistamine are two different classes of drugs. Is this sort of in-depth knowledge is too much to ask of an opthalmologist? <g>

<There are literally hundreds of decongestents on the market>

If you would care to read a few labels, you would discover that most of the "hundreds" of decongestants are variants on the same set of active ingredients !

(and I did'nt even go to Med School)
