Pacific Internet Courts Users With Free TVs, DVD Players

SINGAPORE,
16 Aug 1999, 4:59 AM CST

Singapore's Pacific Internet [NASDAQ:PCNTF] has gone one better than the free
personal computer offers now becoming popular among ISPs and is offering users
who prepay for a year's access their choice of a TV, DVD player, Video CD player or
camera.

The new deals, announced on Saturday, could help Pacific Internet attract
subscribers from competing service providers, of which there are only two - Singapore
Telecom owned SingNet and CyberWay, and enable Pacific Internet to keep
subscribers in Singapore's highly competitive ISP market.

For consumers who already own a personal computer, the free PC deals, of which
Pacific Internet began offering one on July 15, offer little attraction.

The offers are open to both new and current customers and offer the choice of a free
Sony 21 inch flat-tube Trinitron television set, a Sony DVD player, a Sony Video CD
Mini Hi-fi Compo or a Nikon Pronea S Camera, in return for prepayment of a year's
Internet access.

The offer is open to users paying for either a year's unlimited access at S$1,236
(US$740), a year on the 32 hour a month-easy access plus plan for S$772.50 ($463),
or the 13 hour a month-easy access plan for S$679.80 ($407).

"Our Internet bundles are designed to be highly affordable and to appeal to all
consumers in Singapore," said Pacific Internet director of sales and marketing Debbie
Woon in a statement. "At some point in time, everybody wants to have a color TV,
DVD player, VCD mini hi-fi set or camera. These packages are particularly ideal for
those who already have a PC."

Users have until September 5 to sign up for the service and claim their free appliance
after which the promotion ends. The short time will help Pacific Internet win over
subscribers who might otherwise wait to see what competing ISPs offer. In the three
weeks the offer runs, it will be difficult for the competition to come up with a strong
offer to rival the Pacific Internet promotion.

Exchange rate: $1 = S$1.67

Divicom has its own POD????????????????????????????

DiviCom Passes POD Test
August 16, 1999

C-Cube subsidiary DiviCom said it successfully completed interoperability testing with a prototype Point of Deployment (POD) module, essentially entering DiviCom in the race to develop and manufacture equipment based on CableLabs' OpenCable specs.

"DiviCom has been a strong supporter of OpenCable interoperability, with its inherent advantages to cable operators and customers alike," DiviCom President Tom Lookabaugh said. "Interoperability may one day give consumers the freedom to buy digital set-top boxes and integrated digital televisions at electronics retail stores."
