By comparing the immediate events leading to the Korean War [or the Chinese involvement portion of it] seems to lack the sophiscation of historical analysis. Time and place have changed. So is sino-american relationship. Second, agreeing with you, Ron, maybe from a different angle, is that the said article seems to try to set up a strawman. This is quite typical of undergraduate production [I know, I know, I should not have insulted countless of creative undergraduates in this manner <vbg>!] Indeed, the PRC may be unpredictable at times, they are not stupid. The fact that it has publicly commented on its concern of the impending bill on Congress [by Helms/Torricelli.] In conclusion, I certainly do not want to make light of the situation. Any miscalculation from any party, China, Taiwan, the US administration and/or the US Congress, can lead to disastrous outcome. That is precisely why those armchair analysts should be more careful in dishing out amateurish analysis. best, Bosco
