G'day all - [re: Stratfor] Ron, I guess my feeling about the said site is well known, so one should consider my bias before drawing one's conclusion.

The main problem with the said article, aside from keep using "We" without saying what do "We" stand for [<o.t.> have you folks heard of the typical "We" joke? When lone ranger saw the thundering cloud rising on the horizon and said to Tonto, "We are in big trouble..." but, ahem, I digress <G>,] are the fallacies it committed. By comparing the immediate events leading to the Korean War [or the Chinese involvement portion of it] seems to lack the sophiscation of historical analysis. Time and place have changed. So is sino-american relationship.

Second, agreeing with you, Ron, maybe from a different angle, is that the said article seems to try to set up a strawman. This is quite typical of undergraduate production [I know, I know, I should not have insulted countless of creative undergraduates in this manner <vbg>!] Indeed, the PRC may be unpredictable at times, they are not stupid. The fact that it has publicly commented on its concern of the impending bill on Congress [by Helms/Torricelli.]

In conclusion, I certainly do not want to make light of the situation. Any miscalculation from any party, China, Taiwan, the US administration and/or the US Congress, can lead to disastrous outcome. That is precisely why those armchair analysts should be more careful in dishing out amateurish analysis.

best, Bosco
