It is really impossible to know, but if you ask the folks at Real, I am sure they aren't thinking anything less than huge. The opportunity to make money in the A/V streaming market is big...Like Carl Sagan would say Billions and Billions over time

Tom, Put your RealPlayer to work! Listen to the quarterly conference calls archived at the REAL.com site under "company" and then "investor relations" if I remember correctly. RG openly discusses the various revenue streams today and future possibilities. (software licenses, consulting, e-commerce, advertising on site)

Regarding server software revenue as it relates to usage, my understanding is that the software cost increases as the usage need (number of simultaneous streams) increases.

Predicting future (2001 and beyond) revs? You're kidding right? When broadband is commonplace, and 1st generation internet is looked back upon laughingly, well.....use your imagination.

>Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of future potential revenues?<

Yahoo! has an analyst consensus earnings for FY1999 at $.06; FY2000 at $.21 and a 5 year projected annualized growth at 43.8%:

FY2001 = $.32
FY2002 = $.43
FY2003 = $.62
FY2004 = $.90
FY2005 = $1.29

biz.yahoo.com

At yesterday's close of $80, based on analyst consensus of projected earnings, the P/E for each year would be:

FY1999 P/E= 1333
FY2000 P/E= 381
FY2001 P/E= 250
FY2003 P/E= 129
FY2004 P/E= 89
FY2005 P/E= 62

Tom,

Streaming video is the way to communicate the most information in the shortest period of time over the net. With RealPlayer you can build interactive user interfaces. For example, a fashion show in which buy now! buttons change as the models come on and then leave the runway.

Real will make money selling the software, the broadcasting services (through RBN), and the consulting services.

Regards,
Lee
