PINC News... FYI... I have taken position on this one last week...

PR NewsWire Planet City Upgrades PC Y2K Tool
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SEDONA, Ariz., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Planet City Corp
(OTC Bulletin Board: PINC) is pleased to announce a major update to the
Millennium Bug Compliance Kit (MBCK).
The Year 2000 impacts three areas of a PC: hardware, software and user
data files. If any one of the three areas is affected by the Year 2000 and
isn't corrected before January 1st, 2000, it can create havoc with the user's
PC, and with any other PCs sharing files with it. The MBCK provides a
solution for all three areas.
Terry Dennis, President and CEO of Planet City, said "The Year 2000 is
rapidly approaching. This new version of MBCK comes at a time when owners of
personal PCs are realizing they are exposed to Y2K problems and are beginning
to purchase solutions. MBCK Version 5.0 is now available for download from
our new web site at mbck.com. A free restricted version is
available for 'tire-kickers' to check out their PC to see if it is Y2K
compliant. Many PCs are not. Prospective buyers can preview all of the
product's features in the free version, and can then fully enable the product
by simply registering at our website. List price is $49.95. Owners of prior
versions can upgrade for $29.95.
"The product is immediately available in English, with versions in French,
German, Spanish and Italian available soon. This new language support opens
up sales to International markets we had not penetrated with prior versions.
"Developers interested in taking advantage of the open-architecture
'plug-in' opportunity should send an email to terrydennis@planetcity.com. You
will be provided, at no cost, the technical specifications required to
'plug-in' to our product."
The MBCK's hardware support includes the PC's three system clocks: the
Real Time Clock, the BIOS clock, and the Operating System clock. The software
support identifies every registered application installed on the PC, then
provides automated access to the vendors' Y2K compliance information on over
10,000 Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software packages, from vendors such as
Microsoft, Lotus, Computer Associates, Intuit, etc.. User data file support
includes scanning and remediation of file formats from leading software
applications, like Microsoft Excel, as well as support for programming
languages, like Visual Basic. Also provided is a "default text remediator"
(DTR) which scans the user's text files for words and strings that may be date
related, and provides a mechanism for update. The DTR is configurable to
support user defined textual data files.
MBCK Version 5.0 contains an innovative open-architecture feature that is
unique in the PC Y2K tools industry. It will allow third party developers to
provide scanner / remediators for those proprietary data file types that are
not currently supported by the product. This feature will allow developers to
"plug-in" their proprietary data file tools to the rest of MBCK's three
pronged Y2K solution.
Planet City will provide MBCK purchasers with no-cost access to the third
party developed data file tools via the Planet City corporate website. By
allowing third party product updates without requiring users to purchase an
entirely new product, Planet City will be providing a cost effective method to
Y2K remediate PCs, while providing a low cost entry to developers wishing to
provide their proprietary data tools to the public. The developers may treat
their extensions as freeware, as shareware or as conventional retail software.
Several functionality enhancements have been made to the product. MBCK
now supports Win 95/98 and NT. The hardware tests have been improved to show
progress of each test while it is happening, the performance of the software
scanning technology has been vastly improved, the user interface has been
totally rewritten to be more user friendly, and automated access to multiple
Internet resident COTS databases has been provided to ensure users have access
to the latest information regarding the Y2K compliant status of proprietary
software application products.
