<Tenchusatsu, one thing all this benchmark jousting has proven is that none of the proposed DRAM evolutions (Rambus, VC, DDR, etc) will speed up vanilla applications (Winstone/Winbench) to any significant degree.>

I disagree. One cause of all the confusion is due to the fact that these future DRAM technologies, whether it's Rambus, DDR, VC, or whatever, are much more forward-looking. Many of these new DRAM technologies do exhibit a real performance benefit on high-end applications. And the truth is that what benefits the high-end today will benefit the mainstream tomorrow.

As for my own statements, sometimes you have to combat FUD with FUD in order to get to the truth. For example, in response to those who erroneously say that Rambus' solution offers little performance benefit, I might say that PC133 SDRAM has no benefit whatsoever over PC100. But in reality, PC133 does indeed have a benefit. It's a small benefit, but it is low-hanging fruit. PC133 does nothing to address long-term concerns like Rambus will, but then again, PC133 wasn't meant to.
