Why must it be necessary to resort to arms? If a free country and a free people cannot be permitted to break away from a larger whole without being threatened with death and destruction, then how moral is that supposedly "free" greater whole? Not very, I'd say.

Thus, if a free state must resort to arms to keep its people part of the state, does that not smack of regimes such as East Germany and North Korea?
