But you are basically asserting that it doesn't even get a chance to start. Actually, I don't see what's wrong with a fluid alignment of territory. Why shouldn't Texas, if it wants to, be allowed to be free for a while. Then if they find it isn't so great after all they can petition to be restored to the Union. Or if they have a great time, other states can join them or go off on their own. California could split in half. All of New England could join back together and forget entirely about the rest of the present US. Then there would be some options of reasonable places to emigrate TO, and all major factions of the population would have the opportunity to live in places which were more likely to represent their interests.

Of course Terrence couldn't find anybody else who believes the way he does, so he's out of luck unless he and his 2 acres secede on their own. <g> And boy would we kill him on tariffs on everything he tried to import from the rest of us!
