Has anybody seen that the Summit Technologies(BEAM) methods are made to increase the reach of LASIC...advanced and created by the same development scientists recently getting FDA panel recommendation for use with LASIC for the widest range of usages . Does anybody know exactly what this means ? respectfully , bernard

Robert, you wound me. "...an undisclosed backhanded way to further your pet stock Keravision. Since others don't know your bias..."

I have to ask how they could not know my perspective?? I post only under phil on this board, keralinks on yahoo/TMF and philonkera on raging bull. When I provide information, I also provide a citation. When I spout an opinion, I label it as such.

If my own tendency to be forthcoming were not enough, there are lots like you that feel it is their mission to demonize anyone that posts negative findings that pertain to their holy cash cow, mother VISX.

As you accurately stated, I do not post here to advance the fortunes of VISX, however, I do not post here with the hopes of damaging VISX either. I am not so conceited to believe that anyone is going to make investment decisions based on the information I post on these bulletin boards.

I DO feel that any investor has the right to as many FACTS as are available. All to often, these boards are nothing more than cheer-leading squads, rooting blindly for the home team. I am afraid your defensiveness makes you APPEAR to fall into that category.

The article has two points that I consider worth notice.

1) The 7.2% rate of complications is much higher than what is usually found in this type of follow-up and analysis on LASIK. To me, this is a red flag.

Since it was conducted outside the reach of the economic tides at work in the USA, and since it contradicted the stated rates of complications in those studies in the USA so dramatically; I felt that it was knowledge to take note of.
(I strongly urge you to go to my site home.att.net and read the paper that the last link takes you to.)

2) As I read the abstract, it criticizes more the procedure and equipment for preparing the "flap", than the procedure and equipment for doing the "zap."

You are reading much more into the article than is written.

It is unimportant whether the latest Eyefry 12000 model of laser was used. The authors stated that LASIK, using whatever laser it was they used, is an effective procedure. As I recall, they questioned the method of producing the flap and the amount of dedication and skill required of the surgeon.

Finally, this reflects badly on ALL REFRACTIVE SURGERY STOCKS. It does keravision absolutely no good to have people frightened of having their eyes surgically enhanced. That is why I am concerned. If, and I repeat, IF, the complication rate for refractive surgery is greater than is generally believed, I would like to know about it.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't.

Best to you,
Phil

PS...I may be wrong, but I don't think you will get that type of information from the VISX PR rep....
