For the home market, are cable modems the best bang for the buck? Zyan, a DSL provider, offers installation for $125 and the lowest cost service they offer is $60 per month (384K/128K), the high speed stuff is $85 (768K/384K), and I'm not sure if the ISP is separate. I don't know whether you need the ethernet DSL access device ($400) or some other type of DSL modem.

excite@Home offers installation for $100-$175 and cable modem service for $45 per month, and boasts speeds "up to" 2880 Kbps (it slows down when more users get online, and upload speeds are significantly lower), plus you have to buy or lease the modem.

Am I correct that ISDN is becoming obsolete, given its relatively slow speed compared to cable modems and DSL and its comparable cost?

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether the future for the home market is cable modems or DSL?
