Three Putt, I don't know the real reasons why you dislike
AOL so much, I give 3 guess and 1 suggestion:

Guess 1: You might have bought ATHM at $180 (before split)

Guess 2: You might short heavily on AOL?

Guess 3: You have lost big on AOL?

Suggestion: Since you believe so strongly that the world
population gets smater by the day, why don't you run an
ad on New York Times or form a committe to slug AOL
in a formal way? That will do some damage to AOL's bottom
line for sure... Well, just a suggestion, no hard feeling...

It's a big market.. going to get bigger. You are not the target customer. Your needs are simple.
The market is segmented along many factors. I am saying that the customers they were targeting needed AOL as part of the initial offer to get them to sign on.

This business is determined by marketing strategy SUPPORTED by technology (products). And, I believe AOL is the best at this. It's all about proper profiling of the customer and making the best matching offer. (You know database marketing.)

We really cannot accurately base business outcomes on our own customer preferences and technology level.
