Actually, in 96, 97 and even possibly early 98 ... NO. Not necessarily. Not in regards to "embedded systems". Few knew it was a problem. I was given specific examples of particular deals going on - with no names mentioned.

Now legacy software's another issue. This was a well-known problem by 1997. In that case, you could be right. Acquiring company should have considered this.
